Hi all,

As the new year begins, the time comes to hold our first PAIN General

Meeting. We are scheduling this to be on Friday 27th of January, at 12pm in

the Tea Room.

For those of you who would like to renew your membership for 2012, you can

come along and do so!!

We will be needing some early members to help out with market day in Feb as

well so come along if you're keen for that too.

The agenda is as follows:

- Revise the PAIN constitution and make changes where necessary

- Discuss our possible affiliation with SUSS and whether we want to accept

the offer that they have extended to us (which will be specified in the

meeting)

- Discuss our vision for coming year of PAIN

- Talk about our plans for market day

We will also be having pizza for lunch!!

Please let me know as soon as possible whether you will be attending.

Hi everyone!

Welcome to PAIN and to UQ (if it's your first year). Hope everyone had a

good first day and that you're all excited for PAIN!

In case you don't know, we'll be holding a FREE barbecue on Friday. It'll

be around 1:30, but the venue is yet to be confirmed (need to check stuff

with security).

Also, if you have any friends that want to come along or join PAIN, you can

sign up at the bbq. Or just come see one the execs any time and we'll put

you down ;)

Remember, membership is only $2. A free bbq for two dollars?...   Aww yeah

We also have our first error bar Friday as well. We'll be making ice cream

with liquid nitrogen! :D

This starts at about 5 in the tea room.

See you there ;)

Hey everyone, sorry it's late...

This weeks error bar will be phyctionary! (physics pictionary)

For the people that don't study physics, don't worry, we'll have normal

stuff in the pictionary too, it won't all be physics. Or just somehow

physics realted but easy :)

Also, NEXT week's error bar is... *drumroll* PI DAY!

On Friday we will celebrate one of our favourite numbers, pi. (or we can

make it wednesday if all of you want that, since it's actually wednesday :P

So, it's all about pi. The shape, the number, the word, everything! Things

from last year have been making food in the shape of pi, cipcakes, cakes,

pies even (...).

So we'll talk about that with everyone on Friday and see what they want to

do. There are pictures on the PAIN site of previous years' pi days to see

what they did (and what you're up against if we do a bake thing again).

And just so you know, there will be a prize for whoever can recite the most

digits of pi  :)

See you tomorrow for some awesome games fun!

PI DAY!

Hey everyone. Wednesday is pi day!

I have put up a poll on the facebook page (join it if you aren't a member

already ;) ) asking which day you all would like it to be held.

The options are Wednesday (actual pi day) or Friday

So, the actual event. It was discussed, and we're going to go with what we

have done in previous years...

BAKE OFF!

Everyone should try to obtain/make/whatever some kind of pi related food.

You can make pi pies, cupcakes with pi on them, pie flavoured beverages,

ANYTHING! (i once saw pi shaped potato chips...)

If you want ideas there's lots of pics of previous years on the PAIN

website, or if you just wanna see the cool pi stuff check it out too ;)

If everyone brings at least something, we will simply share it around :)

BUT, if only a couple people actually do stuff, then because they don't get

much in return I'm letting them charge a bit for whatever they've got.

So, it's in everyone's best interests to bring something, whatever it is,

so we can all have a pretty amazing interesting nice (spells pain) pi day!

:D

Hi guys and girls.

A meeting was held yesterday, and it was decided that error bars will be

every two weeks.

So no error bar this week, but next week will be super awesome funtastic. I

will send out an email once the topic/name is 100% decided.

Also, Astrocamp. I brought it up before, but for new email list people as

well as people that didn't see/pay attention before, here it is.

Every year PAIN doea 'Astrocamp'. Pretty much looking at the awesome night

sky through awesome telescopes.

More info can be found here: http://www.bas.asn.au/Astrocamps.html    There

also is probably pics etc of previous years Astrocamps on our site.

So I just want to know who's interested. There is a cost involved (look in

link), but it's nothing compared to how awesome the night(s) will be. The

date is still being decided, but we're thinking May.

If you want to come, have any questions, etc, please email Elise, Sammy or

I.

Thanks.

Subject:         Special message: Transit of Venus, 6th June.

Date:         Wed, 28 Mar 2012 12:20:30 +1000

From:         murray baker <************@ihug.com.au>

To:         ****@lists.sps.uq.edu.au <****@lists.sps.uq.edu.au>

Hello PAIN people,

On June 6th this year an extraordinary astronomical event will occur, a

transit of

Venus. The planet Venus will pass between Earth and the Sun, appearing

as a small

dark dot against the Sun. It was to observe the transit of Venus in 1769

that Captain

James Cook sailed to Tahiti.

THIS IS THE LAST OPPORTUNITY ANYONE READING THIS EMAIL WILL EVER HAVE

TO SEE A TRANSIT OF VENUS. The next one won't be until the year 2117.

Transits of Venus are so rare that in the entire history of science only

6 have ever

been observed. The wikipedia entry describes transits, their history and

their

scientific importance extremely well. It is a great story, and includes

such memorable

characters as Johannes Kepler, Jeremiah Horrocks, Edmund Halley,

Guillaume Joseph

Hyacinthe Jean-Baptiste Le Gentil de la Galaisière, Mikhail Lomonosov,

and our own

Captain James Cook.

 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transit_of_Venus

Even better, Eastern Australia is a very good location from which to

view the 2012

transit. It starts at 8:15AM and ends at 2.44PM local time. The entire

transit is

visible (subject to weather), rather than just part of the transit

before sunset or

after sunrise. NASA provides viewing times for various cities around the

world.

http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/transit/venus/city12-1.html        (UTC)

http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/OH/tran/TOV2012-Tab04.pdf     (Local time)

***WARNING*** Never look directly at the Sun to observe a transit or

solar eclipse.

Consult an expert. Use a telescope properly configured for solar

viewing. Use goggles

certified as safe for solar viewing. ***NEVER*** improvise with

sunglasses or other

filters. ***BEWARE*** of cheap telescopes and filters. Safe viewing

instructions are

provided by NASA and Exploratorium. I have personal experience with the

method

described as "projecting the image with binoculars". It works well.

http://sunearthday.nasa.gov/2012/transit/viewing.php

http://www.exploratorium.edu/transit/optical-instructions.pdf

Plenty of additional information will be available on the internet and

in media. Dr

Andrew "Stevo" Stephenson will make formal announcements about events

planned

by UQ.

I saw the transit in 2004. I recommend that you see this one.

Happy first week back PAINsters!

This week we have an event lined up that should appeal to all the students

who are studying physics and looking to make a career out of it:

LAB TOURS!

5pm Friday 20th

We have a few labs lined up, including: The Queensland Quantum Optics Lab

(http://www.physics.uq.edu.au/QOlab/) and the UQ division of the Centre of

Excellence for Engineered Quantum Systems (http://quantum.info/index.html).

Hopefully we will also be getting a tour of a lab which looks at the

formation of Bose-Einstein Condensates (another really cool physical

phenomena!).

The tours will be conducted by postgraduates and also undergraduates who

have done research in their respective labs through opportunities such as

the Advanced Study Program in Science (ASPinS) and the Summer Research

Scholarship. They will be around after the tours to have a chat with you if

have any questions about how to get to their position!

So, if you want to study physics then this is the error bar for you:

1.       Lab Tours

2.       Q&A with experienced students

3.       Pizza ($1 a slice) and soft drinks ($2)

Get Keen!!

Your friendly social convenor,

Jγε!

Hi PAINsters,

Next Friday (4th of May) afternoon from 5pm you're all invited to share in what will be a truly amazing, awe-inspiring, unbelievably incredible, super-ific evening of TRIVIA!!!

Please join me in 7-326 (I'm still waiting to hear back from room bookings so this venue might change), for what I promise will be the best error bar EVER!!! (yes, even better than the last trivia error bar - if that's even possible!)

There will be many prizes up for grabs so don't miss out and don't be late. Pizza will be available afterwards at $1/slice, soft drink is $1/can.

Please note that this error bar might go past 6pm cause trivia is just that much fun! (it all depends on how many questions we're in mood for)

There's a question up on the PAIN website<http://www.physics.uq.edu.au/pain/> that's worth 5 points, so be sure to check it!

See you all 5pm Friday!

Subject:         [Pain] Error Bar Friday 18th - Stirling Engines

Date:         Tue, 15 May 2012 04:26:04 +0000

From:         Mr Sammy Florczak <**************@uqconnect.edu.au>

To:         ****@lists.sps.uq.edu.au <****@lists.sps.uq.edu.au>

Hi PAINsters,

This Friday you'll have the opportunity to let your technical and creative side loose as you will be fashioning a fully functioning* Stirling Engine!!

We will provide you with all the materials you need i.e Coke cans (forged in the fires of mount Doom), wire etc.

These amazing little engines are ultra efficient, relying only on a temperature differential to function. If you don't know what a Stirling engine is, never fear! The link below will explain everything (first years can ask any 2nd year or above) :

  http://www.howstuffworks.com/stirling-engine.htm

So come along! Because once your engine starts chugging away, you'll be sure to pass out from excitement!!

Kind Regards,

PAIN Team

PS.     Although we we have everything we need, there is still a minor shortage of tools. If you have a set of pliers or wire-cutters that you could bring along for the afternoon that would be fantastic. If not, no worries. :)

Hey Everybody!

Tomorrow afternoon at 5pm-6pm, in the Physics Tea Room, we're having a meeting to (what else?) discuss important matters!!

This meeting is not just for the exec, but every member is invited. It would be great if you could come along and give some suggestions and contribute to discussion about the following topics:

1. Astro Camp fundraising:

Every year, PAIN endeavours to make the astro camp as cheap as possible (our goal is for it to be free for you guys to come!). One idea we have so far is to run a bake-sale sometime  next week, so we'll be needing people to help with the baking and selling of things. We're open to suggestions for more fundraising ideas.

2. Semester two error bars:

Our social convenors are getting ready to finalise the error bar list for this semester - we'd like to hear about any cool idea you have.

3. Sammy and Carolyn have an exciting surprise proposition to make, so come along to find out what that is!

There's also a facebook page for this event (you should totally join our facebook group if you haven't already): http://www.facebook.com/events/459821567375089/

Also, if you're interested in astro camp, don't forget to send me an email so I can keep you posted.

See you at the meeting!

The First Error Bar for semester 2 is on tomorrow (Friday 3rd Aug) at 5pm, in the tea room.

We will be constructing mini FM transmitters!!

If all goes according to plan, by the end of the evening we will theoretically be able to broadcast our own physics propaganda to a potential distance of half a kilometre!

If you're interested in electronics, or have never touched a circuit but would like to learn more, this is the Error Bar for you.

$1 Soft drinks and pizza slices as usual!

Hope to see you there!

PAIN, UQ Physics Club

Hi,

Here is the updated info on astro camp.

WHAT WILL WE DO?

We will be leaving Brisbane on Friday afternoon (17/8) and arriving back on Sunday morning (19/8).

Specific transport details will be arranged when we have numbers.

The camp will be run by the Brisbane Astronomical Society. Information on this particular astrocamp is provided by them here:

http://www.bas.asn.au/Astrocamps.html

During the day, canoe hire is available ($11.00 a day). Otherwise, we'll just be chillin' - maybe playing some games or going for walks. The only full day we will spend there is Saturday.

HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?

PAIN is planning on covering at least the accommodation and transport fees, which leaves only food to be paid for. This is estimated at $20 per person.

So, you're entire camp will cost maximum $20.

If we raise lots of money at the bake sale, it could potentially be free.

Note that if you would like to take advantage of the canoe hire, you'll have to pay for this yourself.

FUNDRAISING

In order to fund-raise for astrocamp, we are going to hold a bake sale on Monday 13/8/12.

If you would like to help out, please send me an email.

REGISTRATION

If you are keen to attend, please send me an email and i'll send you a registration form.

Any questions, just shoot me a reply.

Regards,

Elise

Hey everyone!

Incase you didn't know, PAIN is having a bake sale!
I think everyone got sent an email about it a week or so ago, but if you missed it here it is.

What: PAIN Bake Sale
When: Monday 13th August, from 10am
Where: Under Building 69 (that weird spot that goes under the building near the physiology refectory)

If you didn't know and want to join in then just bring anything you want on the day :)
Elise is the main organiser of this so if there's any questions direct them to her, or me if she's not available.
I think she's having a big bake day at her house so if you want to join in on that just contact her.

Also, next weekend (17th-19th)... ASTROCAMP!!!
I'm in the process of organising transport to and from there now. We'll be getting a bus from UQ on Friday afternoon and then one back on Sunday (not sure when yet).
If you want to come but haven't told any of us yet, then do so ASAP. ASAP!

Enjoy your next week :)

Greetings PAINsters!

With everything that's happening over the coming weeks, we thought you could use a handy schedule so you don't miss anything important! Here are a few things happening through August which might interest you:

August 12th (TONIGHT!)
 - the Perseid meteor shower peaks this weekend. Look towards the north, in the darkest sky you can manage, in the few hours before dawn, and you should see a few. The further north you are, the better!
http://home.mira.net/~reynella/skywatch/ssky.htm#Meteor

August 13th (Monday) - 10am PAIN Bake Sale. You'll have already been sent an email about this: We'll be under Building 69 (near Physiol Refec) raising as much money as we can to help with Astro Camp. Get your non-PAIN friends to try our cooking.

- 6:30pm BRISCIENCE Big Questions in Science. As part of National Science Week, a special BrisScience, where four scientists will be talking about the big questions in their research areas. Event is free, at the Customs House 399 Queen St. Info here: http://brisscience.org/

August 14th (Tuesday) - SCINEMA Movie Night. Short science films screening in the Science Learning Centre (Level 2 of Building 69 - Priestley). Starting 5:00pm. If you're a member of the PAIN Facebook Group you should have an invite already, otherwise send us an email so we can get an idea of numbers!

August 17th (Friday) to 19th - Astro Camp! If you haven't sent us an email saying you are coming, or filled out Elise's form, do this ASAP! Bus leaves Friday afternoon and returns Sunday.

August 24th (Friday) - Doco Night. We are currently taking votes on the Facebook group for which documentaries you would like to see. If the night is successful we might make movies/docos an ongoing thing, so let us know what you think!

August 31st (Friday) -Next Error Bar. Topic as yet undecided, but watch for Facebook event and email going out in the week leading up.

More National Science Week Events here: http://www.scienceweek.net.au/

That's all for now folks, hope to see you at some of these!

Hi there PAIN!

So it sounds like Astro Camp was a success. I certainly had a great time the night I was there! Thanks to everyone who came along and helped organise/fundraise.

If you're craving some more astronomy activity, here are a few things you can get involved with:

Astronomical Association of Queensland - The AAQ meets once a month at our very own Parnell building (Room 222) and this month's meeting is this Saturday (25th). The meetings include talks from members and astronomy news, and runs from 4pm - 6pm. Guests are always welcome.
The best part is, after the meeting, they move down the hill to the sports fields to set up their telescopes and get some observing time in. They're really friendly people, and they love explaining things and pointing them out to newcomers. Plus they have some really great equipment and can show you how to get the best out of yours!

http://www.aaq.org.au/

Brisbane Astronomical Society - Your hosts from Astro Camp. They also hold observing nights, at Mt Coot-tha, and their next one is also this Saturday, 7pm-9pm. Check out their site for more activities:

http://www.bas.asn.au

Southern Astronomical Society - These guys are located further south, and I don't know much about them, but you can check out their website here:

http://www.sas.org.au/

Finally, here's a nifty little site for seeing what's going on in the southern skies: http://home.mira.net/~reynella/skywatch/ssky.htm
Includes upcoming planetary alignments, meteor showers, star maps and tracking for the International Space Station.

Also, don't forget this Friday PAIN is holding a documentary night. Voting is still open on the Facebook page. Currently Carl Sagan's Cosmos and 'Can We Make a Star on Earth' are winning.
Expect an email later in the week when we finalise the room booking and the winner(s) of the vote!

Til next time,

Greetings Physics Fans,

I'm sure you're all on tenterhooks to find out which documentaries we're screening tomorrow night.

Well, it's a tie, so we will be showing:

Can We Make a Star On Earth?

Professor Brian Cox takes a global journey in search of the energy source of the future.
Called nuclear fusion, it is the process that fuels the sun and every other star in the universe.
Yet despite over five decades of effort, scientists have been unable to get even a single watt of fusion electricity onto the grid.
Brian returns to Horizon to find out why.
http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/can-we-make-star-on-earth/

Carl Sagan's Cosmos

With Cosmos, Carl Sagan and his wife and co-writer, Ann Druyan, brilliantly illustrated the underlying science of his same-titled book, placing the human species within a space-and-time context that brought the infinite into stunningly clear view. The series, which originally aired in 1980 on PBS, has been seen by more than 700 million people worldwide and remains a high-water mark in miniseries history.
http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/cosmos/

Each is an hour long, but we might be able to fit a second episode of Cosmos in if people are interested.

We'll be in
Room 234 of Parnell (the lecture theatre next to the one we're used to) and starting at 5pm.

Hope to see you there!

Carolyn (for PAIN!)

Hi there PAIN,

As mentioned in the last email, the next Error Bar is this Friday (31st).

This time we will be measuring the speed of light two different ways:

1. A bucket.

2. Chocolate chips.

Don't worry if you don't know much physics - we'll be explaining everything as we go.

So bring along your thinking brain and maybe a mobile phone, and let's do SCIENCE.

Also, next week we'll be holding another Doco Night on September 7th. Voting is open on the Facebook group page until 8pm 5th Sep. We'll be in touch again when we have a room booking confirmation, and when the votes are in!

If you don't use Facebook, feel free to email in your suggestions!

Employing computer graphics, space race archive material and first-hand testimony from scientists around the world, The Planets is comprehensive and spectacular account of space exploration and discovery.
This series is a historical production about the history of space travel including both Russian and American perspectives.
It focuses each episode on a topic like the sun, atmosphere, giants, moon etc… The film footage on both country’s programs

reaches from the Sun to Neptune and the moons in between.

Hi everyone,

This Friday, we are going to attempt to make a cloud chamber!

What is a cloud chamber you ask? Well we won't be running around trying to catch clouds and put them in a room somewhere. A cloud chamber in physics is used as a particle detector. We will be able to pick up any ionizing radiation that comes our way. This means cosmic rays, and any other radiation which might be nearby. It's the closest you can get to seeing particles with your naked eye!

So come along this Friday, 5pm, to the Physics Tea Room, and see something cool!

When it comes to your physics future, you've some important questions to ask.

• What is the best research topic available within Australia, the one which excites you the most?

• Where can you find exceptional facities and a vibrant research culture, to ensure that you are fully supported?

• Who are the research leaders with the time, track record and contacts, to launch your career internationally?

Hey everyone.
PAIN is holding their AGM in two weeks from today, Friday the 12th of October.
During this we will hold elections for the new executive members of PAIN for next year!

If you wish to apply for a position, send an email to myself or Elise stating which position you would like to apply for.
You can apply for multiple positions, and also apply at the meeting on the day.
If you are unable to attend, that is fine. Just let me or Elise know and we will put your name down.

The meeting will be at 4pm. It will conclude around 5, followed by a talk. The talk is that week's event (not some talk about PAIN AGM stuff, don't worry).
So if you have a lab on that day or anything else, please contact us and we'll put your name down.

Hope all your holidays are going well, see you next week ;).

Hi all in PAIN,

Q: What is the Error Bar for Friday 5th?

A: It's Trivia Night, in 7-326, starting 5:00PM promptly-ish.

The great thing about trivia is that if you don't know the answer to a

question, you

will learn something... something really trivial. There will be

beginner's questions.

There will be advanced questions. There will be prizes. There will be

Pizza slices and cans of drink are available for the trivial price of $1

I send this email out no longer as a Social Convenor, but as your newly-appointed President!

At today's AGM we heard the yearly roundup from the outgoing Executive Committee. We passed Audit (phew!), we have a nice crop of members, and plenty of fundraising barbecues are recommended.

Thanks to the (outgoing) Exec, Kyle, Elise and Sam, and to Social Convenor Sammy. I hope you all agree that it's been a fun year. Administration passes to the new Exec immediately, but I'm sure there will be some transitioning in the next week while we get up to speed with everything.

So, without further ado, your PAIN Executive Committee for 2013:

President: Carolyn Wood

Treasurer: Henry Nourse

Secretary: Cait Adams

Social Convenors: Geoff Bonning and Ben Duffus

Webmaster: Murray Baker

It's great to be here, and I hope you're as excited about 2013 as we are!

Stay tuned for news of events as we count down to the end of semester.

Til next time,

Carolyn

Hi All!

We've had some technical difficulties getting the first email from your new Social Convenors out, so I'm sending it on for you. Just read this in Geoff's voice. Or if you've never heard Geoff's voice, try Morgan Freeman:

Hi all!

I'm Geoff Bonning and along with Ben Duffus, we're your new social convenors!

On account of the exec changeover just happening and us being new and all, we unfortunately have no Error Bar planned for this Friday. Fear not though, we'll be back next week and even more so next semester/year.

See you then!

Geoff

Hi Everybody!

Exams are coming, so we’re coming together for one last Error Bar this week before the onslaught begins. This Friday (26th October) PAIN will be holding a “Good Movie but Bad Physics” night and in the spirit of uniting in the face of peril we will be showing The Avengers. The room should be in Parnell (possibly Rm326) at the usual time of 5pm, but we will confirm the location later.

For further help for exam preparation there will be another physics study in the first week of SWOTVAC on Wednesday 31st October (date and location also to be confirmed). If you missed out last semester and don’t know what this is, it’s basically a day for physics students to study together and get help from a variety of tutors and lecturers (we will send a list of lecturers attending asap). The day was huge success last semester and we hope that it will be even better this time around!

Hope to see you there!

There was an idea to bring together a group of remarkable people, so when we needed them, they could fight the battles that we never could...

Hi Everyone,

The jacarandas are out, the weather is turning hot, and soon exams will be upon us. But before you start stressing, remember PAIN has your back. We're holding another Study Day this Wednesday of SWOTVAC, and all physics students are invited (so remind your non-PAIN member friends!).
Turn up from 10am - 4pm to Rooms 342 and 343 in the Priestley building (Building 67 - Maths) and study to your heart's content, grab some lunch, and get your questions answered. Lecturers will be dropping in at various times through the day. Here is the schedule:

PHYS1002 - Joel and Ian - 10am-11am

PHYS1171 - Margaret - 2pm-3pm

PHYS1160 - Anton - 2pm-3:30PM

PHYS2041 - Taras - 2pm-3pm

PHYS2041 students also have a session scheduled in Room 05-213 (Richards Building) from 10am-12pm with Simon.

If you are a tutor for any of these courses, or a helpful senior student, you are welcome to come and help!

PAIN will also be putting on pizza for lunch from 1pm - 2pm in the Physics Tea Room. So if all that isn't incentive to get some study done, I don't know what is!

Hope to see you there!

Carolyn

Hi again!

We have one more addition to the roster:

PHYS2082 - David - 12-1pm

And I should add, that if our rooms in the Maths building become too crowded, we also have use of the labs in Parnell:  7-209 and 7-204

If you are on Facebook, please check out our Event page, and invite any non-members who study physics.

Remember, even if your lecturer is not scheduled to attend, you are still welcome to come and study and ask questions!

Hi again!

Just letting you know that this week’s Error Bar is being held in Parnell Room 234 at 5pm, which is one of the large lecture theatres in the Physics building (if you enter Parnell from the Great Court, it is the lecture theatre on the right). In case you’ve forgotten we’re watching The Avengers (trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPoHPNeU9fc in case you haven’t seen it already or to get you in the mood for it if you have) for our “Good Movie but Bad Physics” night.

Hope to see you there!

Subject:         [Pain] [PAIN] Total Solar Eclipse this Wednesday!

Date:         Sat, 10 Nov 2012 14:25:40 +0000

From:         Miss Carolyn Wood <*************uqconnect.edu.au>

To:                 *****lists.sps.uq.edu.au <*****lists.sps.uq.edu.au>

Hi PAIN,

With the Transit of Venus last semester, and now a Total Solar Eclipse, we really have been spoilt this year!
If you're feeling particularly bright-eyed this Wednesday morning (14th) at around 5:45am, you're in for an astronomical treat - we will be able to see 80% of the eclipse from Brisbane!

Although not as spectacular as the full deal which will be seen in Cairns, having never seen any percentage of a solar eclipse, I will be quite satisfied myself with that 80%.

Here is some information from the Astronomical Association of Queensland on when the eclipse will start, reach maximum, and end, in various places around Queensland:
http://www.eclipse.aaq.org.au/

****WARNING****

Never look directly at the Sun to observe a transit or solar eclipse. Consult an expert.

Use a telescope properly configured for solar viewing.

Use goggles certified as safe for solar viewing.

****NEVER**** improvise with sunglasses or other filters.
****BEWARE**** of cheap telescopes and filters.

Only purchase equipment from a reputable supplier.

Safe viewing instructions are provided by NASA and Exploratorium in the following links. Murray, our webmaster, has personal experience with the method described as "projecting the image with binoculars" and reports that it works well.

Let's hope for good weather!
Good luck with exams,

Carolyn
