CONSUMED

I wash away your scent
But never your presence -
Nor would I ever want to.

I close my eyes
So that the world melts away
And I am again with you.
We stare at the sun,
And into each other's eyes,
And into each other's souls,
As white sands glisten at our backs
And the ocean rises to kiss our toes.

You send a shiver down my spine
But you do not leave it to travel alone -
You send followers.
The wind blows stronger;
The storms are distant
Yet already I am struck down
As if by lightning;
Immobilised
Except where melded with you;
Electrified from head to toe.

Touch me now -
I may crumble like the sand
On which we lie,
I may seep slowly away
Like the waves lapping the shore,
Or I might just breathe in
Deeply, to remember you,
Knowing that later I must
Wash your scent away.
