FRAGILE

I danced through the twilight yesterday;
The earth spun ever faster beneath my feet
As I chased the coming dawn.
I was breathless and I felt whole,
And there was the unity I had longed for -
The spirit and the vessel,
Evolving together
Into what was intended.

Through no fault of my own
I longed for you, in dreams and in life
Without faith.
I cried too long and too loud
And danced too near the edges -
Too close to the breaking point.

My call was answered
Because my anguish was so great,
And the sun rose to warm me.

But yesterday, the sky danced with me.
The sun gradually let go my hand
And the stars crept up to look upon me
And upon you.

How frail we feel
When viewed in this context.
Our fragile beauty
And delicate longing
Must surely be crushed by what lies beyond.

But it is a gentle flame,
Hard in its protection,
Strong, solid;
Yet soft in its warmth
And it binds us.
