Astrocamp, 6th to 8th May 2011, Hazeldean.

It was a dark night... In a coal mine... The lights were out...

Time for some lunacy.

The Milky Way, nice, but hardly lunacy.

The Way is still Milky.

The Southern Cross. Correct hemisphere, so we didn't get lost after all.

Stars? A smart Astro-person could tell us which ones!

Time exposure, graffiti with a laser pointer on a tree.
Coherent photons are just spray cans for geeks.

Ok, it's posh name is 'Crux'. The five stars are called Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta and Epsilon Crucis. The two pointers, almost in a straight line with Gamma Crucis, are Alpha and Beta Centauri, sort of. Alpha Centauri, aka Toliman, aka Rigel Kent, is actually a binary star system Alpha Centauri A and Alpha Centauri B, and even then has a third orbiting companion Proxima Centauri. Don't confuse Alpha Centauri B with Beta Centauri. Beta Centauri, aka Hadar, aka Agena, is actually a double star system Hadar A and Hadar B, sort of. It turns out that Hadar A is actually a binary! Clear?

That's 7 done, and still a few million left for next years Astrocamp.
